India’s Ayush Verma won the men’s shot put F53 gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games on 21 October 2026. He recorded a best throw of 8.16 metres. The Games are being held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from 18 to 24 October 2026.
Para-athletics and F53 Classification
Para-athletics includes track and field events for athletes with eligible impairments. In athletics classifications, “T” refers to track events and “F” refers to field events. The F53 classification is used for seated throwing events. Athletes in this class compete from a throwing frame and rely on upper-body strength, coordination and technique.
Classification in para-sport groups athletes according to how an impairment affects performance in a particular sport. Classification systems are sport-specific, so an athlete’s class in one sport does not automatically determine their class in another.
Asian Para Games
The Asian Para Games are a multi-sport event for athletes with disabilities from across Asia. The first edition was held in Guangzhou, China, in 2010. The event is organised under the Asian Paralympic Committee and is generally held every four years.
The 2026 edition is taking place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Verma, born on 15 July 1991, began competitive para-athletics in 2020 and specialises in F53 shot put under coach Robin Kumar.
Shot Put Medal Results
