What the Official CBSE Notice Says
The official public notice issued by CBSE on 25 August 2026 covers four key points:
1. Background — 22nd Edition Application Already Held As notified via Public Notice dated 08.05.2026, the online application process for the 22nd Edition of CTET was open from 11 May 2026 to 10 June 2026. Thousands of candidates applied during this period.
2. Supreme Court Direction The Hon'ble Supreme Court, vide its judgment in Review Petition (Civil) Diary No. 53434/2025 in Civil Appeal No. 1385/2025, has emphasised the need to provide eligible teachers a reasonable opportunity to comply with the statutory requirement of acquiring the prescribed TET qualification.
This Supreme Court order is the direct legal basis for CBSE opening a second application window — ensuring that no eligible candidate who genuinely wanted to appear for CTET is denied the opportunity due to the earlier application window.
3. New Application Window Opened In view of the Supreme Court's direction and in the larger interest of candidates, CBSE has decided to reopen the online application portal from 25 August 2026 to 01 September 2026 — giving all eligible candidates who missed the May–June window a final opportunity to register.
4. Exam Date Postponed The most significant part of the notice: "The revised date of 22nd Edition of CTET examination will be announced after closure of the portal."
This means the exam, which was previously expected to be held in September 2026, has been effectively postponed. A new date will only be announced after 01 September 2026 once the second application window closes and CBSE assesses the total registered candidate pool.
