India and China held their first Corps Commander-level military meeting in Arunachal Pradesh on 6 September 2026 to discuss border tensions and de-escalation measures along the eastern sector of the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The meeting took place at the Wacha-Damai Border Personnel Meeting (BPM) point in the Kibithu sector of Anjaw district, which lies on the Indian side of the border.
Corps Commander-level Talks
Corps Commander-level talks are military meetings between senior field commanders of two armies. In the Indian Army, a corps is a large operational formation that usually consists of multiple divisions and supporting units. Such meetings are used for border management, communication, and local conflict prevention.
Wacha-Damai BPM Point and Eastern Sector
The Wacha-Damai BPM point became operational in 2014. It is one of the designated locations for military interaction along the India-China border. Before this meeting, high-level talks at this site had not taken place, and earlier Corps Commander-level discussions were held at the Chushul-Moldo border meeting point in Eastern Ladakh.
The Wacha-Damai point is located in Arunachal Pradesh, a state that shares a long border with China in the eastern Himalayas. The Kibithu sector is part of Anjaw district, which lies near the India-China frontier.
Recent Border Context
The meeting followed reported troop build-ups and localised tensions in the Taksing area of Upper Subansiri district in Arunachal Pradesh. It also came after diplomatic talks in Beijing on 25 August 2026 between India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on border management protocols.
