State-level export outreach

The Commerce Ministry also organised a “Leveraging FTAs” programme in Jaipur on 17 October 2026. These initiatives provide exporters with information on using trade agreements and accessing overseas markets.

The India-Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, signed in December 2025, took effect on 1 June 2026. The India-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement came into force on 20 October 2026. How free trade agreements work
A Free Trade Agreement is a pact between countries that reduces or removes trade barriers on agreed goods and services. An FTA may also set rules for services, investment, customs procedures, and the origin of traded goods. Rules of origin determine whether a product qualifies for the tariff preferences in an agreement. Tariff commitments and product coverage vary across agreements.
