The organisations will jointly develop power projects and explore cross-border electricity trading opportunities across Africa. The agreement does not specify project locations, investment amounts, capacity or implementation timelines.
Roles under the Cooperation Agreement
NTPC will contribute technical, engineering, project development, construction management and operational expertise. Its role includes assessing project feasibility and developing solutions for potential power projects. Africa50 will identify priority investment opportunities and work with governments and regulators. It will structure projects for investment and help secure financing. The organisation will draw on its network of 34 African countries that are shareholders. The partnership is intended to identify commercially viable projects, attract investment and improve electricity supply for households and businesses in African countries. NTPC Chairman and Managing Director Gurdeep Singh and Africa50 Group Chief Executive Officer Alain Ebobisse represented the organisations’ stated objectives for reliable power supply, regional electricity trade and investment in power generation.
