The United States announced a new “Super Intelligence Force” task force on 4 October 2026 to coordinate the federal government’s response to artificial intelligence. The task force is led by Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton, who serves as the “AI Czar” or “SI Czar”.
Task Force Composition
The task force includes Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson, Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor, and Undersecretary of War for Research and Engineering Emil Michael. The structure brings together officials from intelligence, regulation, personnel administration, and defence research.
Mandate and Timeframe
The task force has 120 days to determine the federal government’s responsibilities in AI development. It will prepare a report on the risks and opportunities of the technology and will coordinate engagement with consumers, public interest groups, technology companies, and critical infrastructure providers.
