The Grievance Redressal Rules under VB-G RAM G
Context: The Ministry of Rural Development notified the Grievance Redressal Rules, 2026, under the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin), or VB-G RAM G, mandating a strict 15-day resolution window for all scheme-related complaints.

About The Grievance Redressal Rules under VB-G RAM G:
What it is?
- A statutory, multi-tier institutional framework notified by the Ministry of Rural Development under the VB-G RAM G Act, 2025 (which replaced the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, MGNREGA) to govern the receipt, digitization, inquiry, tracking, and time-bound disposal of complaints arising from the execution of the rural wage employment scheme.
Aim: To establish an accessible, digitally monitored, time-bound grievance mechanism safeguarding rural households’ statutory wage and employment rights while strengthening local administrative accountability.
Key Features of the Rules:
- Strict 15-Day Resolution Timeline: Mandates that every registered grievance related to scheme execution (work allocation, wage payments, asset quality, or muster rolls) must be conclusively resolved within 15 days of receipt.
- 7-Day Inquiry Deadline: Designated Grievance Redressal Officers (GROs) at the Gram Panchayat, Block, or District levels must examine records, hear the complainant (if necessary), and complete inquiries within 7 working days of registration.
- Multi-Channel & Accessible Submission: Allows citizens to submit complaints through multiple avenues—in person to the GRO, via Speed Post with proof of delivery, through dedicated telephone/helplines, or directly on the Central grievance portal.
- Mandatory Non-Rejection Principle: Explicitly prohibits authorities from refusing to register a grievance on grounds of format, language, manner of submission, or procedural and technical deficiencies.
- Immediate Digitization & Tracking: Requires physical complaints received at local tiers to be entered into the central Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) platform on the same day or by the next working day, issuing an immediate acknowledgement receipt with a unique tracking number.
- Automated Escalation & Appeal Architecture: Stipulates those unresolved complaints pending beyond the 15-day threshold must be automatically escalated to the next higher administrative authority, with statutory provision for appellate review under the parent Act.
- Removal of FIR & Local Body Reporting Clauses: Drops draft provisions mandating automatic FIRs for financial misappropriation and submission of action-taken reports to Gram and District Panchayat meetings.
