India Signs Javelin Missile Deal with United States

India signed a Letter of Offer and Acceptance on 28 August 2026 to procure the Javelin anti-tank guided missile system from the United States through the Foreign Military Sales process. The agreement formally makes India a customer of the FGM-148 Javelin system, which is a man-portable, fire-and-forget, medium-range anti-tank guided missile.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted a high-altitude trial of the indigenous Military Combat Parachute System (MCPS) at the Nyoma-Mudh Drop Zone in Ladakh’s Leh district on 26 August 2026. The trial jump took place from 22,000 feet above mean sea level in temperatures of minus 15 degrees Celsius.

NSG Launches First All-Women Commando Course

The National Security Guard (NSG) Training Academy launched India’s first-ever Mahila Commando Conversion Course (MCCC) on 24 August 2026 at its garrison in Manesar, Haryana. INS Malvan is the second vessel of the Mahe-class Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) built for the Indian Navy. The ship was designed and constructed by Cochin Shipyard Limited in Kochi and was delivered to the Navy on 31 March 2026.
