Ministry of Tribal Affairs Holds FRA Review Conference in Kolkata

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA) convened the Second Regional Review Conference on implementation of the Forest Rights Act (FRA), 2006, in Kolkata, West Bengal, on 9 and 10 October 2026. Officials from eight states attended to review claims, pending cases and implementation measures.

The Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL) began its Diamond Jubilee Year celebrations at Jaduguda on 4 October 2026. UCIL was incorporated in 1967 and operates as a Public Sector Enterprise under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE). The Jaduguda mine started operations in 1967 and was the first uranium mine in India.

Jharkhand’s Mandar Gets Geographical Indication Tag

Mandar, a traditional folk percussion instrument of Jharkhand, received a Geographical Indication tag from the Geographical Indications Registry in Chennai on September 28-29, 2026. The registration links the instrument with its geographical origin, traditional craftsmanship, and cultural identity in Jharkhand’s tribal and folk traditions.

India’s 51st Doppler Weather Radar was inaugurated at Sambalpur in Odisha on 16 September 2026. The radar is located at Jamadarpali in Sambalpur and functions as a Make in India installation under Mission Mausam.

Sanjukta Parashar, a 2006-batch Indian Police Service officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, became the first woman officer to head the Central Reserve Police Force’s CoBRA unit in September 2026. She took charge as Inspector General of the 10-battalion CoBRA formation from 1996-batch IPS officer Danesh Rana.

The Ministry of Steel and its Public Sector Undertakings are participating in Special Campaign 6.0, which runs from 2 October to 31 October 2026. The campaign includes a preparatory phase from 15 September to 30 September 2026 for target identification and groundwork. E-waste management is one of the priority areas under the campaign, along with mechanised cleaning, disposal of pending references, and public awareness.

IIT (ISM) Dhanbad has secured an Indian patent for an electrochemical reactor that recovers copper from industrial wastewater. The patent was granted by the Patent Office, Government of India, for the invention titled “An Electrochemical Reactor for Cathodic Recovery of Copper from Wastewater”.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved eight railway multi-tracking projects on 9 September 2026 with an estimated cost of Rs 20,804 crore. The projects will expand the Indian Railways network by about 1,196 km and are targeted for completion by the financial year 2029-30.

Bihar and Jharkhand are scheduled to sign a water-sharing agreement for the Sone river on 31 August 2026. The pact ends a 25-year dispute that began after Jharkhand was carved out of Bihar in November 2000.

Government and industry data dated 27 August 2026 showed that 45 coal-fired power plants in India were operating with critically low coal inventories. The affected plants had coal stocks below 25% of required inventory or fuel for less than three days, and 40 of them were domestic coal-fired facilities.
