The 1st International Maize Conference 2026
Context: The 1st International Maize Conference (IMC 2026) commenced in Hyderabad under the theme “Maize Revolution for Food, Feed, Fodder, Fuel and Sustainability in the Changing World” (M4FS).

About The 1st International Maize Conference 2026:
What it is:
- A premier global agricultural summit uniting international scientists, policymakers, agricultural universities, and agribusiness leaders to formulate a forward-looking roadmap for genetic enhancement, yield gap reduction, mechanization, and value-chain development in maize.
Host: Hosted in Hyderabad, Telangana.
Aim: To bridge maize yield gaps, develop climate-resilient, biofortified hybrids and meet growing industrial demand for bioethanol, poultry feed and livestock fodder.
Key Outcomes of the Conference:
- Transition from 4F to 5F Framework: Expanded Food, Feed, Fodder and Fuel (4F) to include Farmers (5F), emphasising profitability, reduced input costs and sustainable livelihoods.
- Targeting 75 Million Tonnes by 2036: Aims to increase India’s maize production from 55 to 75 million tonnes through improved hybrids, scientific crop management and higher productivity.
- Strategic Crop Zoning Without Displacement: Promotes agro-ecological maize cultivation across Kharif, Rabi and Spring seasons, expanding production without displacing essential pulses and oilseed crops.
- Strengthening Hybrid Seeds & Bio-Refineries: Recommends strengthening AICRP on Maize, expanding public hybrid seed availability, ensuring aflatoxin-free grain and supporting India’s 20% ethanol blending target.
