India signed a Letter of Offer and Acceptance on 28 August 2026 to procure the Javelin anti-tank guided missile system from the United States through the Foreign Military Sales process. The agreement formally makes India a customer of the FGM-148 Javelin system, which is a man-portable, fire-and-forget, medium-range anti-tank guided missile.

Telangana launched a gold and copper mining exploration programme at Lingadahalli village in Devadurga taluk of Raichur district, Karnataka, on 27 August 2026. The project covers 199.13 square kilometres and marks the first entry of Singareni Collieries Company Limited into critical and strategic mineral exploration.

Andhra Pradesh approved India’s first dedicated Quantum and AI University campus in Amaravati on 27 August 2026. The project will be developed by the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology, a Deemed-to-be University under the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

Taiwan’s Legislative Yuan approved the National Defense Autonomy and Unmanned Vehicle Industry Development Act on 27 August 2026. The law authorises a six-year budget of NT240 billion, or about US7.6 billion, for drone industry development and defence procurement.

A landslide-dammed lake near the Nepal-Tibet border overflowed on 28 August 2026 after a massive glacial collapse on 26 August 2026 triggered flash floods and landslides in the border region. The lake formed near the confluence of the Chhochen Khola and Purepu Tsangpo rivers and was estimated at about 2 million cubic metres.

Tamil Nadu notified three new elephant corridors on 28 August 2026 in the Cauvery North Wildlife Sanctuary in the Hosur Forest Division. The corridors are part of the trans-Cauvery movement route used by Asian elephants and other large mammals between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

The Indian Coast Guard received ICGS Ajit, a Fast Patrol Vessel built by Goa Shipyard Limited, on 25 August 2026. The vessel is the seventh Adamya-class FPV built by Goa Shipyard Limited and has over 65 per cent indigenous content.

A new Banas Bio-CNG Model Plant was inaugurated at Vinchhiwadi in Dhanera taluka of Banaskantha district, Gujarat, on 26 August 2026. The facility is a joint initiative of Banas Dairy, Suzuki Motor Corporation, and the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). The event also included a Bio-CNG filling station and the launch of India’s first rural cooperative-model “Gramin Bharat Taxi” service with nine vehicles.
